The Story Behind Casa & Quill

I've always believed there is something special and meaningful about the things we choose to hold onto.

For me, that has always been writing—and the memories that live on through every word.

It's the feeling that comes from putting something into words and knowing it can be held onto forever. A letter written to someone you love. A card made by hand. Postcards from loved ones traveling abroad. A note tucked away and discovered years later. And perhaps most meaningful of all, the handwriting of someone you love who is no longer here to write another note.

It's the simple act of putting something into words, and the beautiful act of saving those words so they can be remembered.

I love knowing that my parents held onto the love letters my dad wrote to my mom while he was serving in Vietnam more than 60 years ago—words that have carried their love across generations.

       
I love displaying the collection of my Mom's handmade cards celebrating every birthday and holiday over the years. They remind me not only of the love and care she put into each design, but of a childhood spent watching her address Christmas cards for family and friends. I could recognize the familiar rhythm of her handwriting anywhere—the names she carefully wrote, and the tradition of sending those cards each year. This collection of her words, handwriting, and creativity are treasured pieces of my family's history.

     
Tucked away in a bedroom drawer of cards and letters from my kids, family and girlfriends, I still have my childhood diary—a little glimpse into my 9-year-old self and the person I was becoming.

I love old photographs. The black-and-white images that offer a glimpse into lives and moments that existed before our own. Faces, places, and stories we may never fully know, but somehow feel connected to. Perhaps that is why I've always been drawn to family history—to tracing the names, stories, and journeys of the people who came before me. In that search, I've discovered old photographs, handwritten signatures, naturalization papers, and ship manifests—small fragments of lives that make the past feel remarkably close.











There is something profoundly moving about seeing the signature of someone generations before me, finding a photograph whose story I am still piecing together, or discovering a name recorded on a ship manifest as someone began a new chapter. These photographs and pieces of paper are more than records. They are tangible connections to the people who came before us—reminders that the things we leave behind can carry our stories farther than we ever imagined.

Where Inspiration Found Me

I had always known what I wanted to preserve. Italy helped me discover how I wanted to express it.

During a trip to Italy, I experienced the beauty, history, and magic of Rome and Florence. Of all the history and beauty those cities hold, what captured my heart most unexpectedly were the stationery shops—especially in Florence.

I was captivated by the way Italy celebrates the enduring art of putting words to paper—not simply the words themselves, but everything surrounding them. Beautifully crafted paper and stationery, leather keepsakes, exquisite pens and journals, and the tradition of monograms reflected a culture that valued craftsmanship, beauty, and the personal nature of a handwritten letter.

There was something so meaningful about choosing a piece and making it uniquely your own—or creating a personalized gift for someone you love.

Every detail felt thoughtful, timeless, and personal.

And I found myself thinking:

I want to bring this feeling home.


The Heart of Casa & Quill

Casa & Quill was born from my love of writing, family, history, and the belief that correspondence still matters.

We live in a wonderfully digital world, but there is something special about receiving a handwritten note in the mail, opening a postcard from a friend traveling abroad, or discovering a letter years later and recognizing the handwriting before you've even read the words.

Casa & Quill is a celebration of those moments—of writing to the people we love, recording the things we don't want to forget, and choosing beautiful pieces that make those simple acts feel meaningful.

I curate journals, fine stationery, personalized pieces, and timeless gifts for the words we want to write, the moments we want to celebrate, and the memories we never want to forget.
